Questions And Answers

HOW DOES A BOXERJOCK OPERATION RUN?
The BOXERJOCKS are both a ride and game combined. Ride dynamics are similar to bumper-cars, though differ by increased mobility as well as having robotic-like articulations for punching. BOXERJOCKS require about 70 square feet each to operate, but are usually enclosed in a 16-foot square perimeter for a pair. Ride prices range from $ 2.50 - $ 5.00 per person for a 1.5 to 3 minute ride with a thirty second change-over time. Ride capacity therefore ranges from forty to fifty persons per hour. Other revenue producers include corporate parties, fairs and festivals, nightclubs, school carnivals, air shows etc., where rates are usually $ 125.00 - $200.00 per hour with operator.

WHAT ABOUT RIDER SAFETY CONCERNS?
During operation, a rider is completely protected from the opposing robot's punches due to a rigid network of steel tubing and wire mesh. The BOXERJOCKS were designed so that only a certain region of the structure would be impacted upon, and therefore adequately reinforced to withstand constant punishment. Lower body areas, and backsides are geometrically out of reach for an opposing robot's punches. BOXERJOCKS are capable of two to three miles per hour, and are adequately cushioned by a bumper perimeter so as to minimize impact shocks upon collisions. Persons aged from about five years on up through adults can participate in this game.

HOW DURABLE ARE THE BOXERJOCKS? From it's design to construction the BOXERJOCKS will give owners a lifetime of high revenue production. The entire frame structure consists of a triangulated space frame fabricated of two inch by fourteen gauge steel tubing. Hydraulics propel the machine through a pair of independent motors which enable instantaneous reversals and stalls without damage to them. Pneumatics are utilized for the arm and shoulder motions since they produce quick motion. Due to the fact that air systems are very compressible by their own nature shocks and stress-induced fatigues are greatly lessened on all the arm linkage components. Most parts available from W.W.Grainger, Inc.

Areas that receive the greatest wear are the gloves, arm shields, and painted surfaces of the head and barricade regions. A pair of gloves and arm shields will usually last about one year prior to replacement. The cost of these replacement items is quite small. The head is constructed from heavy gauge PVC coupled to a steel inner frame. This assembly is hinge mounted atop the robot, and includes a pair of compression springs to dampen shocks as the head returns after being knocked back.

All critical pivot points utilize bronze utilize bushings, self-aligning bearings, or ball bearings to assure maximum life.

WHAT SIZE AND TYPE OF RUNNING SURFACE IS REQUIRED?
The minimum requirement for one pair of BOXERJOCKS is 250 square feet, or a sixteen-foot square surface. Of course, additional area will be needed for entrance and exit, crowd zones, etc. The preferred operating surface is a medium smooth finished concrete type. A bumper base is recommended for the entire perimeter of the ring area to keep the BOXERJOCKS safely confined. An angle iron base with 2x6 wood planks 6" high works quite well. A pair of ropes along the base perimeter safely partitions the spectators away from the ring. Plans are available for the portable ring enclosure, any welding fabrication shop can construct for you.

WHAT ABOUT NOISE LEVELS?
The GX-240 Honda engines operate at approx. 2100 rpm, at a constant level. Therefore at such a low operating engine speed, noise levels are generally in the 75-decibel zone. The impacts of the rubber gloves upon the robots are of a low frequency, and are cushioned to a great extent, thus emitting low noise levels.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES IT TAKE TO RUN THE BOXERJOCKS?
From our experience, one person is required to take tickets, or cash and handle the instructions, timing, etc. for a pair of BOXERJOCKS. The operator/referee marshals the customers in and out of the BOXERJOCKS. Since the ride area is small and only two BOXERJOCKS running, the operator can simply terminate the ride by either vocally or electric bell signaling, just like bumper boats use. I personally use this method for adequate ride control.

ARE THE BOXERJOCKS EASILY TRANSPORTED?
Two Boxerjocks can be safely and easily transported on a 16 foot tandem axle. With the aid of a small davit winch-like crane, mounted on the trailer, the units can be loaded or unloaded by one person in twenty minutes. The portable ring enclosure, each leg-16' long can be loaded along side the BOXERJOCKS on the trailer, two rails on either side. Trailer Cost $1,000.

HOW MUCH DOES PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE COST?
Depending on your standing with a given insurance carrier, rates for one pair of BOXERJOCKS will be from $1400 - $2500 per year. I personally use ALLIED SPEC. INS. for my own BOXERJOCK set.
